MRS. JESS B. BURTON

Memorial services for Mrs. Emma Burton were conducted from the First Evangelical Free Church, Boone, Thursday afternoon, August 20. The service was in charge of Rev. Walter C. Berggren, assisted by Rev. Lester Heck of Lehigh, Iowa. Rev. Heck was a long time friend, and at one time pastor of the Burton family. Burial was in East Linwood Park Cemetery.

Those in charge of flowers were, Mrs. Gust Tigerstrom, Mrs. Frank Johnson, and Mrs. Silas Paulson.

Pallbearers were Harold Herrick, Howard Jones, Loyal Kitchen, Paul Chicken, Charles Hayes, and Arthur Crouse.

Mrs. Myron Johnson and Mrs. Justin Gustafson sang two songs, "Beyond the Sunset" and "In the Garden." Mrs. Violet Anderson played the organ.

Mrs. Emma Priscilla Burton, daughter of George L. and Cora M. (Burleson) Scott, was born in Webster County, Iowa, June 2, 1894 and died August 17, 1959 at the age of 65 years, 2 months, and 15 days.

On July 18, 1921 she was united in marriage to Jess B. Burton at Fort Dodge, Iowa. To this union were born eight children, three sons and five daughters.

Her life was spent in Webster, Hamilton and Boone Counties. She lived in Boone County the last 35 years.

Thirty six years ago she was converted and joined United Brethren Church where she has been an active member through the years. Since moving to Boone last December she has, with her husband, attended the First Evangelical Free Church in Boone.

Mrs. Burton was always busy and took time to do fancy work, to raise flowers, and always found time to lend a helping hand to any one in need.

Her mother, father, two brothers and one grandson preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband Jess; three sons, Paul L., Sergeant 1st Class U.S. Army, Fort Hood, Texas, Keith, Perry, Ia., and Jess M., U.S. Navy on U.S.S. Princeton; five daughters, Marie Wisecup, West Des Moines, IA, Maxine Adams, San Diego, CA, Hazel Williams, Boone, Esther Toepfer, Perry and Fae Fields, Hagerstown, MD; two brothers, Clarence and George Scott of Webster City; six sisters, Mrs. Chancey Davis, Calendar, Mrs. Fred Carpenter and Mrs. Austin Kent, both living in Minnesota, Mrs. Fred Nichols, Salem, MO., Mrs. Herbert Merrill, Stratford, and Mrs. John Clum, Webster City; 13 grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
