Dean H. Walter, age 62, of Boone, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.
Dean was born on September 20, 1946 in San Jose, California, the son of Hubert Joseph and Mary Maxine (McCall) Walter. He graduated from Ogden High School.
Dean served in the U.S. Army.
Dean married Dianna Lynne Paris on December 27, 1969 in Ogden, Iowa. The couple lived in the Boone area from 1969 to 1990, then moved to Apple Valley, Minnesota and lived there until 2004, the couple then returned back to Boone. Dean worked with Qwest Telephone Company as a computer technician. He retired in 2004.
Dean enjoyed hunting deer, squirrel and rabbit, also bear hunting in Canada, and also liked to watch John Wayne movies. Dean especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Dean is survived by his wife, Dianna (Annie) L. Walter of Boone; his son, Travis J. Walter and wife, Anna of Boone; his 3 grandchildren, Brady, Cole and Abby Walter all of Boone; his three sisters, Joyce Husick of Poland; Judy Sears of Orlando, Florida; Susan Peterson of Orlando, Florida; his brother, Keith Walter and wife, Janie of Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Chuck Husick.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 29, at the Central Christian Church at 803 Greene Street in Boone. Rev. Paul Fraser will officiate.
Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, with Full Military Honors conducted at the graveside by the Boone Veterans Council.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, at the Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, at the church from 9:00 a.m. to the time of service at 10:30 a.m.
Memorials may be given to the family, to be used at their discretion.
