Maurice Levi Sheldahl, 81, of Boone, died on Monday, December 31, 2007 at Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone, of pneumonia, secondary to COPD.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5 at 11 a.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. American Legion Post 37 will present full military honors. Cremation will follow the services, with inurnment at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Maurice Sheldahl was born June 21, 1926 in Cylinder to James and Amanda Sheldahl. He served in the US Army during the Korean conflict from 1951-1953. He married Vivian Chase on June 19, 1955 in Adel.

He retired as a maintenance foreman for the Chicago Northwestern railroad following a career of 32 years.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vivian Sheldahl of Boone; four daughters, Diana (Bob) Anderson of Waukee, Donna (Terry) Benbow of Cody, WY, Rita (Bob) Brim of Boone, and Eloise (Brian) Prough of Boone; one son, Larry (Iris) Sheldahl of Omaha; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Arnold (Velma) Sheldahl of Menlo, Lloyd (Martha) Sheldahl of Avoca, and Charles Sheldahl of Salinas, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard Carpenter; one brother, Arthur Sheldahl and one sister, Julia Welker.

Visitation will be on Saturday, January 5 from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
