Arla Hook, age 70, of 1509-7th Street, died March 31, 2009, at the Boone County Hospital. Her body has been cremated and a Memorial Service will be Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall. Burial of her cremains will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Webster City at a later date.
Arla was born in Boone on November 11, 1938, the daughter of Clifford and Lola (Walden) Lane. She attended Bryant Elementary School and Boone Junior High. She moved to Webster City in 1953 and then returned to Boone in 1995. In 1953, she married Marvin Duane Jondal in Boone. To this union, four sons and a daughter were born. Marvin died in 1963. On July 22, 1972, Arla married Jack Hook Sr. in Webster City. She was a homemaker and also worked as a security guard at the Iowa Army National Guard Armory and A.A.S.F. in Boone. Arla retired in 2007. She enjoyed traveling with Jack, especially on their motorcycles, fishing, crocheting, and flower gardening, especially lilacs and pussy willows. Arla was especially proud of receiving her GED in 2005.
Arla was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Douglas Jondal, a daughter, Michelle Jondal, four sisters, Opal Culver, Doris Huffman, Patricia Anderson and Leora Lane. She is survived by her husband Jack of Boone; three sons, Timothy Jondal and wife Sandy and Eugene Jondal, all of Webster City, and Anthony Jondal and fiancée Cindy Dencklau of Badger; six grandchildren: Erin Nessett of Florida, Jordan Crouch of Stanhope, Jake Crouch, Mitch Jondal, and Cody Jondal, all of Webster City, and Mike Jondal of Charles City; and nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present to receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation continues Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion.
