James "Jim" Morgan, age 73, of 1330 Boone Street, died at his home on Wednesday, March 11, 2009. A Funeral Mass will be Saturday, March 14, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating.
Following the Mass, his body will be cremated.
Jim was born in Boone on March 2, 1936, the son of George and Opal (Buck) Morgan. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1955. Jim married Ethel Vest on October 8, 1955, at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone. In earlier years, he worked as a tire salesman for R & W Inc. of Boone and for eight years was a member of the Iowa National Guard in Boone. From 1977 to 1994, Jim was employed at the Boone High School in the Maintenance Department, retiring in 1994. Jim was a volunteer fireman for Boone, and a member of the Police Auxiliary, social member of the V.F.W. Post #817, Life Member of the Boone Hunt & Fish Club, member of the Boone County Civil Defense, and a diver and Past Commander of the Boone Underwater Rescue Unit. In earlier years, he and Ethel enjoyed dancing and then traveling in later years. He also enjoyed woodworking, assembling model airplanes, NASCAR Racing, and watching NASCAR driver, Jeff Gordon.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Kevin Morgan, and a sister, Barbara Zenor. He is survived by his wife, Ethel of Boone; three sons, James Morgan Jr. and Jeff Morgan and wife Sara, all of Boone, and Mike Morgan and wife Nancee of Aurora, Colorado; three daughters, Carol Hazen and husband Steve of Marshalltown and Mary Kay Anderson and husband Brian and Peggy Pfrimmer and husband Jim, all of Boone; 16 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Friday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. where a Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m. The family will be present at the funeral chapel Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or to the family to be used at their discretion.
