Onalee McCoy, age 98, died February 10, 2009, in the Hearthstone Memory Care Unit of the Eastern Star Masonic Home. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, February 14, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Onalee was born on October 3, 1910, in Beresford, South Dakota, the daughter of C. Walter and Ida (Koons) Kundert. She graduated from Sioux Falls High School in South Dakota in 1928 and attended Augustana College of Sioux Falls where she received her teaching certificate. Before her marriage, she taught school in North Dakota. On February 23, 1932, she married Richard George McCoy in South Dakota. From 1956 to 1977, Onalee was employed at the Boone County Hospital as a nurse's aide and seamstress. After retiring, she enjoyed doing volunteer work. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, dancing with her husband, and going for rides in the car. She made her own clothes and those of her children. Onalee was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart.
Onalee was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, LaVelle Kundert, an infant son, Thomas William McCoy, and a daughter, Kathleen Muller. She is survived by a son, Richard McCoy and wife Donita of Ames; six grandchildren: Peter McCoy of Norwood, New York, Shawn McCoy of Sioux City, Meagan McCoy of Fort Madison, Shannon McCoy of Stuttgart, Germany, Chris Muller of Brooklyn, New York, and Annette Muller Toole of Fresno, California; four great-grandchildren, Brendan and Aidan McCoy of Stuttgart, Germany and Tyler and Alyson Toole of Fresno; and two nephews, Wally and Donny Kundert.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshal on Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and a Vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues Saturday at the funeral chapel from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Memorials may be given to the Hearthstone Memory Care Unit at the Eastern Star Masonic Home or the Ballard Creek Community-Assisted Living in Huxley.
