Aaron Eugene Crook, age 82, of the Madrid Home in Madrid and formerly of 328-2nd Street in Boone, died at the Boone County Hospital on February 6, 2009. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall. Following the service, his body will be cremated and graveside services and burial of his cremains will be Thursday, February 12, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in the Boone Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be conducted by the Boone Veterans Council
Aaron Eugene was born on October 15, 1926, in Waynoka, Oklahoma, the son of Aaron and Dolly (Smitcar) Crook Sr. He served with the United States Army during World War II. On July 16, 1947, Eugene married Helen Marie Williams at Clarinda, Iowa. The couple later divorced. He worked as a machinist for Central Steel in Clinton. Eugene enjoyed playing his guitar, old country music, watching westerns on television, the outdoors and fishing, especially for walleyes. At one time, he held the Iowa State Record for the size of a Wiper Bass he caught.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, two brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by three sons, Dale (Marion) Crook of Vestal, New York, Jon 'Andy' (Connie) Crook of Burlington, and Roy Crook of Ankeny; five daughters, Vicki (Elliott) Stammer of Boyertown, Pennsylvania, Peggy Dierks and companion Curtis Smith of Firestone, Colorado, Trude (Kevin) Hargrove of Corpus Christi, Texas, Virginia (Tony) Cornelius and Jodi (Scott) Paris all of Boone; two brothers, Chester Crook of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Bill Crook of Boone; three sisters, Dorothy Sunstrom and Thelma Carter both of Boone and Sharon Hathaway of Denison, Texas; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
