Lois Mae Malcom, age 94, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, died September 7, 2008, at the Hearthstone Memory Care Unit in the Eastern Star Home. Lois requested that her body be cremated and that a private family graveside service be held. A private family graveside service was held Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Linwood Park Cemetery where Rev. Paul Fraser officiated. Following the service her cremains were buried.
Lois was born in Northboro, Iowa, on January 27, 1914, the daughter of George and Lenora (Johnston) Bain. She married Cecil Malcom on December 31, 1930, at Mt. Ayr, Iowa, and graduated from Northboro High School in May of 1931.
The couple moved to Boone in 1935. In earlier years, Lois worked as a dietary aide at the Boone County Hospital, but her main occupation was wife and mother. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, several Bridge Clubs, and the Order of the Eastern Star for over 66 years. Lois loved to play bridge, and she enjoyed knitting, baking, walking, and traveling with her husband.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a daughter, Janice Malcom. She is survived by a son, John Malcom and wife Suzanne of Arlington Heights, Illinois, and a daughter, Judy Munson of Boxholm; six grandchildren, Marcy Peterson and Michael Munson both of Boxholm, Dr. Ryan Malcom, Joseph Malcom, David Malcom, and Michael Malcom, all of Chicago, Illinois; two great grandchildren, Karrie Peterson and Kristin (Josh) Wilson of Boxholm.
Memorials may be given to the Hearthstone Memory Care Unit at the Eastern Star Masonic Home or the First Baptist Church. Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall was in charge of arrangements.
