Robert "Bob" Wickman, age 81, of 1904 Tama Street, died Thursday, September 25, 2008, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A Funeral Mass will be Monday, September 29, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with flag folding and formal presentation of the American flag by the Boone Veterans Council.
Bob was born in Boone on September 3, 1927, the son of Christian and Anna (Rudisell) Wickman. Bob served in the United States Army in Alaska following World War II. He married Doris DeMouth on November 17, 1951, at the Sacred Heart Church in Boone. Bob was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 44 years and retired as office manager on December 15, 1988.
He was a member of the Holy Spirit Community and was active in the Sacred Heart Church.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Oc Dettman, Clarence Dettman, Ray Wickman, and Frank Wickman, and a sister, Geraldine Kendall. He is survived by his wife, Doris of Boone; three sons, Mike Wickman and wife, Dian and Max Wickman and wife Carla, all of Boone, and Marty Wickman and wife, Vicki of Wheat Ridge, Colorado; two daughters, Monica Pearson and husband, Kevin and Mary Jo Wickman, all of Boone; a sister, Lois Huddleston of Boone; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. The casket will be moved to the Church of the Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon where friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and a Vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. at the Church. The family will be present at the Church on Sunday evening from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. to receive friends. Visitation on Monday will be at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Memorials may be given to the family to establish a memorial fund at a later date.
