Lyla E. Price, age 95, of Boone, entered into rest on Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the Boone County Hospital in Boone.Lyla was born on September 11, 1913 in Boone County, Iowa, the daughter of John Daniel and Effie Belle (Hannum) Good. She attended Lowell School and graduated from Boone High School in 1931.
Lyla married Mantford Thomas "Wick" Price on August 28, 1938, in a garden setting at the home of, Alta Marquardt in Ogden. She was a lifelong resident of Boone County. Lyla worked as a sales clerk at the Woolworth Store, the Newberry's 5 & 10 cent Store, and was later employed at the Hosiery Mill and at Dolly's Children Shoppe of Boone. In 1939 she became a homemaker and she did volunteer work at the VA Hospital in Des Moines for the next 47 years.
Lyla was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Boone, and was active with the Anna Circle of her church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Lyla was active in working with her high school class reunions, she did volunteer work at the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Birth Place and the Tourist Information Caboose in Boone. She enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, making crafts, and especially enjoyed her cats, Goldie Morris and Tammy.
Lyla is preceded in death by, her husband in 2001, her 3 sisters, Alta Marquardt, Frances Kruse and Florence Mills, her 2 brothers, Fred Good and Roy Good.
Lyla is survived by her niece, Imogene "Genie" Kruse of Corpus Christi, Texas and four great nieces, Judy (Miller) Zoetewey of Sarasota, Florida, Donna Lee (Good) Lineberger of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Nancy (Miller) Kuhl of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Marcia (Marquardt) Schnell of Fort Dodge, Iowa and five great nephews, Claude Good of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Gary Good of Manassas, Virginia, Chuck Marquardt of Mason City, Iowa, Brian Marquardt of Warsaw, Indianna, Curtis Marquardt of Las Vegas, Nevada
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 2, at the First United Methodist Church, 7th & Arden Streets in Boone. Rev. Andrea Kraushaar will officiate. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening, October 1, at the Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present at that time, visitation continues on Thursday at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., then at the church from 12:00 noon to service time.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or the Boone Area Humane Society.
