Norma Jean Adreon, age 71, 312 2nd Street, passed away at the home of her daughter on September 17, 2008. Her body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held Wednesday evening September 24, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall with Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating.
Norma was born in Syracuse, Kansas, on January 18, 1937, the daughter of Myron and Lorena (Burrell) Davidson. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Falls City, Nebraska in 1955. After graduation, she joined the United States Air Force and took basic training at San Antonio, Texas. From there, Norma went to West Palm Beach, Florida for flight hostess training. After completion of training, she was sent to McGuire Air Force Base in Trenton, New Jersey. She made flights to Iceland, Greenland, Scotland, and France. In 1956, she received a medical discharge for a back injury that prevented her from performing her duties as a flight attendant. After her discharge, Norma came to Boone to visit relatives, where she met Franklin "Frank" Adreon and later they married on June 3, 1957, at the Sacred Heart Church in Boone.
Norma worked for Archway Cookie Company in Boone for a few years. She then became the first female parking attendant in 1970 and in 1977, she became a Secretary for the City of Boone. In 1989, she worked at the Salvation Army Thrift Store as a saleswoman until 1999.
Norma enjoyed yard work and flower gardening, stamp and coin collecting, walking, swimming and sun tanning, trips to Meskwaki Casino in Tama, and the activities of her grandchildren. She was a member of the Boone County Historical Society.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson, Jonathan, and a brother-in-law, Marvin Fritz.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Robert Martin of Boone; three grandchildren, Jodi, Jacob, and Jacinda; two step granddaughters, Heather and Haley; and a great grandson, Carson; one brother Jim Davidson and wife Peggy, of Falls City, Nebraska; three sisters, Marge Fritz of Westminster, Colorado, Elsie Lewis and husband Vern of Shubert, Nebraska, and Linda Majerus and husband Robert of Iowa City.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from noon until servicetime, where the family will be present from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Boone Area Humane Society or to the family to be used at their discretion.
