Lois Saggau, 78, wife of former IHSAA Executive Director Bernie Saggau, passed away early Monday morning at the Cavanaugh House in Des Moines.
Lois (Kretzinger) Saggau was born in Coon Rapids, Iowa and married Bernie Saggau in 1952. The couple had three children, Jeff (deceased), Becky and David.
Lois was a devoted wife, mother and friend.
For many years, the Saggaus made their residence in Boone. Bernie served as the Iowa High School Athletic Association's Executive Director from 1963 until his retirement, January 1, 2005.
In later years, the couple moved to West Des Moines as both Lois and Bernie remained active in civic and state events. Lois was a member of the Des Moines Women's Club and was a supporter of Hoyt Sherman Place and Bernie continued to be active with the Iowa Hall of Pride Museum.
Funeral services are planned for Saturday, November 15 at 10 a.m. at West Des Moines United Methodist Church at 720 Grand Ave, West Des Moines.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov.14 at Hamilton's Funeral Home at 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Iowa Hall of Pride Foundation, 303 Park Street, Des Moines, Iowa, 50309, or the Des Moines Women's Club. Memorials may also be sent to the Saggau home, 501 South 28th Street, West Des Moines 50265.
Hamilton's Funeral Home in West Des Moines is handling all arrangements. Boone News Republican
