HALLOWELL, THRAILKILL

Helen Lorraine Hallowell, the daughter of Charles and Myrtle (Boyle) Thrailkill, was born Sept. 22, 1932 at Dexter. She passed away at the Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, AZ Jan. 15, 2009 with her husband of 53 1/2 years at her side.
Helen grew up on the family farm outside of Earlham and graduated from Earlham Consolidated Schools in 1950. She attended and graduated from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines. Helen worked as a registered nurse from 1953 until her retirement in 1992.
She married Richard E. Hallowell July 10, 1955 at First Methodist Church of Harlingen, TX. One son Gary Michael blessed this marriage. Helen and Richard spent 20 years traveling the world while Richard served in the U. S. Air Force. Following military life they lived in Virginia, Colorado and later, Mesa, where they lived until Helen's death.
Helen joined the Methodist Church as a young woman and remained a member until her death. She loved her family and grandkids, was an avid golfer and enjoyed quilting and sewing.
Survivors include her husband Richard; a son Gary Michael; and two granddaughters, Melissa and Kathleen, all of Northern Virginia. Also surviving are a brother John Thrailkill of Bethany, Mo. and a sister Mrs. Carol Claussen of Ogden; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Mary Thrailkill Meyers; and a brother Wayne Thrailkill.
