Mary Louise Hamil, age 87 of Ames, formerly of Boone, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.
Mary was born on June 23, 1921 in Portsmouth, Iowa, the daughter of John Leo and Bernice Marie (Phillipy) Frederick. She graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Boone.
On August 11, 1941 Mary married William J. Hamil in Unionville, Missouri. She was a homemaker and also worked at the Ledges Manor in Boone as a cook for around 10 years. She has lived most all her life in Boone.
Mary was a member of the Nazarene Church of Boone. She played the piano for church services and served as Sunday School Treasurer. She was also active in other duties in her church. She was a member of the V.F.W. of Boone. Mary enjoyed raising her garden and strawberry patch, and canning the vegetables she raised. She also enjoyed camping and fishing. Mary sang and played the harmonica, which she enjoyed.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Karen, her six brothers, Gene, Don, Jack, Bob, Nick and Barney and her sister, Ruth.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Carol Toft (Dennis) of Ames, IA., her son, Jerry Hamil (Sue) of Margaretville, New York, her son, Jim Hamil (Ginger) of Cambridge, IA., her son, Thomas Hamil (Francine) of Boone, IA., her 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, her brother, James Frederick of Boone and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 26, at the First Baptist Church at 612 8th. Street in Boone. Rev. Daniel Flemming will officiate.
Burial will be in the Boone Memorial Gardens in Boone.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 25, at the Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family will be present at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday at the church from 9:00 a.m. to the service time.
Memorials may be given to the family, to be used at their discretion.
Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
