Hazle Erickson, "Mrs. E", 93, a resident of Hearth Stone Memory Care at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday morning, January 23, 2009. Hazle had been a resident at the Home since December of 2004
She was born on October 25, 1915 in Kewanee, Illinois the daughter of Louis and Adele Siegmann.
On December 30, 1938, she married Ralph L. Erickson at the Evangelical Covenant Tabernacle in Kewanee, Illinois.
Hazle graduated from Kewanee High School. Before her marriage, she was employed at Kewanee Boiler.
The couple lived in several locations throughout the years, where her husband pastored numerous churches including Cuyler Covenant in Chicago, Illinois, First Covenant in South Bend, Indiana, First Covenant in Tacoma, Washington, First Covenant in Des Moines, Iowa for 21 years, First Covenant in Wichita, Kansas, and Faith Evangelical Free Church in Tacoma, Washington before moving to Boone 20 years ago where the couple made their home. For 59 years, Hazle was the perfect pastor's wife. During her time in Des Moines, she helped found the Jay Thompson Group Home and served on the Board of Directors for many years.
She was preceded in death by her birth and adoptive parents, husband in 1998,1 daughter Ruth Roseanne Erickson, 2 sisters and 1 brother.
Survivors include 3 daughters; Margaret Sundberg of Des Moines, Dorothy Gustafson and husband Jon of Boone, Deb Bishop and husband Ray of Boone; 6 grandchildren Kirsten Wynia of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Keli Gustafson of Wichita, Kansas, Kent Sundberg of Kearney, Nebraska, Keri Tuner of Nashville, Tennessee, Kory Gustafson of Ankeny, Katie Bishop of Boone, Iowa; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Monday afternoon, January 26th at 1:30 p.m. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone with Kent Sundberg officiating.
Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Princeton, Illinois.
Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone, on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends. Visitations will continue on Monday from 8:00 a.m.until the time of service.
Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their memorial gift to Valley View Village, 2571 Guthrie Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa, 50317, which was started by her husband, Pastor Ralph Erickson.
