Edgar A. Sprock, 86, a resident of Boone, Iowa, passed away peacefully from this life on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at his home.
Ed was born in Ute, Iowa on May 6, 1922, the son of John H. and Alvina (Schriever) Sprock. He was educated in country school, parochial school and high school in Charter Oak, Iowa. After high school he worked in Chicago until he enlisted in the Army Air Corp after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served with the 15th Army Air Corp in Italy during World War II. After the war, he began a 38 year career with a predecessor company of Mid American Energy retiring as the safety director, after serving as a power plant operator, district engineer and area manager in Audubon and in Sioux City.
Ed was married to Clara Ernst in 1948 and together they had two children and three grandchildren. Clara passed away in 1997. Ed retired to Boone, Iowa in 1997. He was very active in the community and Chamber of Commerce activities during his career, but his first love was his family and his church family in Audubon, Sioux City and in Boone. He shared his strong Christian faith with family, friends, neighbors and strangers alike.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Sprock of Boone; his son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Jody Sprock of West Des Moines; his three granddaughters, Jaclyn Strutt (Jon), Kristin Sprock and Katelyn Sprock.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 12th & Boone Streets in Boone. Rev. Lindsay Watkins will officiate.
Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Adair, Iowa.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, at the Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family will be present at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established to theTrinity Lutheran Church in Boone.
Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
