Sidney Ralph Marland, 86, formerly of Spring Valley, Ill. and a resident at the Illinois Veteran's Home at La Salle, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley.
Sidney was born on August 23, 1922 in Flint, Mich. to Sidney and Minnie (Slusser) Marland. On March 3, 1950, Sidney was united in marriage to Donna Brundage in Flint, Mich. and together they raised five children.
Sidney was a World War II Army veteran and served in the Pacific Theater. For 33 years, he worked as a group leader for General Motors until his retirement. Following his retirement, he then worked for the Boone Community School District.
Sidney is preceded in death by his wife, one son-in-law, three brothers and four sisters
He is survived by his five daughters, Candyce (Elmer) Wolsfeld, of Spring Valley, Ill.; Tonya Marland, of San Antonio, Texas; Rhonda Karr, of Boone; Joyce (Darrel) Eccles, of Boone and Janice Larson, of Boone. Sidney is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
His body has been cremated and a memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Barto Funeral Home, located at 120 W. Cleveland St. in Spring Valley, Ill.
