Evelyn Laurine Blakeley, 77, formerly of 811 R Avenue in Boone, Iowa passed away at Bethany Manor Life Communities in Story City, Iowa on Thursday afternoon, December 4, 2008 where she had been a resident since February of 2007.
She was born on January 14, 1931 in rural Boone County, Iowa the daughter of Lawrence and Lela (Fairchild) Johnson.
On September 24, 1953, she married John H. Blakeley at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Evelyn was a graduate of the Ogden High School.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Farm Bureau Women and had worked for Fareway Groceries and Citizen's Bank, before becoming a full time mother and farm wife. The couple farmed northeast of Boone until John's retirement in the fall of 2002. She was very interested in her family's history and did genealogy research.
Her parents and husband, John in February of 2003, preceded her in death.
Survivors include 1 daughter, Lorrain Blakeley of Minneapolis, Minnesota, 1 son and daughter-in-law, David and Tammy Blakeley of Ames, Iowa, and 2 grandchildren, Matthew and Jonathan Blakeley both of Ames, Iowa.
Services will be held on Tuesday afternoon, December 9th at 1:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone with Pastor Lindsay Watkins officiating.
Interment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa.
Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone, Iowa on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends. Visitations will continue at the Stark-Welin Chapel on Tuesday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. when the casket will be taken to the Church where visitations will continue from Noon until the time of service.
