Mary Conway, age 94, of Boone and the Evangelical Free Church Home, died December 20, 2008, at the Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 24, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall with Rev. Paul Fraser officiating. Burial will be in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery, Ridgeport.
Mary was born in Fraser, Iowa, on May 19, 1914, the daughter of George and Josephine (Walters) Fairchild. She married Pat Conway on December 29, 1956, in Moline, Illinois. Mary worked in Des Moines, Williamsburg, Davenport, Clinton, Boone, Denison, Marshalltown, and Washington, as a funeral home hostess where her husband worked as a funeral director. She was a member of the Central Christian Church. Mary enjoyed dancing, socializing, and in earlier years, roller skating.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Gerald Crane, two grandchildren, Kris and Kurt Crane, three sisters, Reba Wilson, Ruth McAnally, and Allie Fairchild, four brothers Roy, Leslie, Earl, and Harold Fairchild, and a special friend LuVerne Angstrom. Mary is survived by a son, Rudy Crane of Palm Bay, Florida; two grandchildren, Cynthia Draper and husband Lee of Palm Bay, Florida and Steve Crane and wife Patti of Dallas, Texas; four great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Kaye Gourgee of San Diego, California; nieces and nephews, including Nancy Dean, Sheryl Loudon, and Darrell and David Fairchild; and a special friend, Mary Ziel.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Visitation continues Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until service time.
