Frances Elrene Geerdes, age 87, passed away at home on Monday, December 29, 2008 in North Kansas City, MO following a lengthy bout of pneumonia.
Frances was born in Los Angeles, California on Feb 2, 1921 to Joseph and Margaret Berg. She moved to Eldora, Iowa as an infant and graduated with a bachelor's degree in teaching. She was a home economics teacher for many years. She then taught special education in Boone, Iowa and also taught at the Job Corp in Excelsior Springs, MO.
Frances was married to George Jerome Geerdes on June 1, 1943. From that union came three children. She was a member of the Moment of Truth Bible Baptist Church. She loved her family, church, and friends. Her life exemplified Christ's love, humility, forgiveness, and devotion. She loved to cook, sew, and play cards. She read her Bible daily. She thoroughly enjoyed many trips with her children.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her three children, Barbara Beggs of the home; Bruce Geerdes and his wife Bonlia of Ames, IA; and Beth Milligan of Overland Park, KS; three grandsons, Terry Geerdes and his wife Charmi, of Nevada, IA, John Beggs and his wife Stephanie of Independence, MO, and Matthew Milligan of Nixa, MO; and two great-granddaughters of Nevada, IA and 1 great-grandson of Independence, MO.
Funeral services will be held at the Moment of Truth Bible Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO at 3 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2009 with visitation one hour prior at the church. A graveside service will be held 1pm, Saturday, Jan 3, 2009 at the Steamboat Rock Cemetery in Steamboat Rock, IA.
The family sends their love and appreciation to North Care Hospice for their loving care that was provided. Memorial contributions are suggested to Northcare Hospice House, 2900 Clay Edwards Drive, North Kansas City, MO. White Chapel Funeral Home is overseeing funeral arrangements.
