Death Came to Him as the Result of a Stroke - Interment at Independence

The funeral services for Dr. M. N. Voldeng, aged 71, of Woodward, who supervised the building of the state hospital for the feeble-minded, and who has been its superintendent during the seventeen years which it has been in existence, were held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the auditorium of the hospital. Interment was made at Independence, Iowa, Wednesday afternoon.
Dr. Voldeng passed away as the result of a stroke which came upon him a few days preceding his death.
The deceased was born at Decorah, Iowa, and received degrees from Luther college, and from the medical college at the University of Illinois, from which he graduated in the year of 1887. A few years following his graduation he served on the hospital staff at the state hospital in Wisconsin.
From Wisconsin Dr. Voldeng went to Cherokee, Iowa, where he served on the staff there, later going to Des Moines where he served on the medical staff at Drake University. He also practiced medicine with the late Ely Grimes in Des Moines.
Nineteen years ago Dr. Voldeng was called upon to supervise the construction of the hospital at Woodward, and after the construction was appointed as its head which position of trust he has held during the entire liftime of the institution.
Dr. Voldeng was an authority on the treatment of insanity and had written books on that subject. At present Dr. Voldeng was president of the state medical association.
He is survived by his widow, of Woodward, and two sons, Dr. Karl Voldeng of the Mayo clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, and W. V. Voldeng, an employee of the state hospital at Clarinda, Iowa.
