Bruce Williams was born on Saturday; February 25, 1939 in Boone; Boone County, Iowa. He was the son of Charles and Vivian (Petersen) Williams, Jr. Bruce attended Lincoln grade school and graduated from Boone High School in 1957. He served with the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961. He was a signalman third class aboard the carrier USS Hancock. On Friday; August 8, 1958, he married Bertha Packer in Boone, Iowa. The couple later divorced. On Saturday; July 9, 1983, Bruce married Linda Schell in Ames; Story County, Iowa. For over 20 years, Bruce was employed with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and worked as a signal supervisor. He then worked as an assembler at Gates Rubber Company for three years. He retired in June of 2001. Over the years, Bruce worked part time for Pizza Hut as a deliveryman. He enjoyed playing golf, especially at Don Williams Golf Course, and watching golf on T.V. He also enjoyed bowling, playing pinochle and pitch, bingo at the American Legion and in Tama; Tama County, Iowa hunting small game, as well as fishing for bass and catfish. He especially enjoyed his dogs and mushroom hunting and eating morels. Bruce Williams, age 69, passed away on Monday; August 11, 2008 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife, Linda of Nevada; Story County, Iowa. His two sons: Trent (Jennifer) Williams of Denver; Denver County, Colorado and Chuck (Jennifer) Williams of Honolulu; Honolulu County, Hawaii. His two daughters: Nan (Curt) Dotts of Oshkosh; Winnebago County, Wisconsin and Robin (Reid) Lerner of Louisburg; Miami County, Kansas. His four stepsons: Matt (Cheryll) Schell of Roland; Story County, Iowa. Pat (Beverly) Schell of Byron; Peach County, Georgia. Chris (Heidi) Schell of Nevada; Story County, Iowa and Kent (Heidi) Schell of Hutchinson; McLeod County Minnesota. His two sisters: Delores (Dan) Wolfenbarger of Brownsville; Cameron County, Texas and Joyce (Tony) Bible of Ames; Story County, Iowa. His five grandchildren, sixteen step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. Bruce is preceded in death by his parents. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday; August 14, 2008 and will continue on Friday; August 15, 2008 from: 8:00 a.m. until the service time. Funeral services will begin at: 10:00 a.m. on Friday; August 15, 2008 at the funeral home with Oran Lewis officiating. Interment will be at the Pilot Mound Cemetery in Pilot Mound with Military Honors conducted by the Boone Veterans Council. Memorials in Bruce's honor may be given to the family to be used at their discretion. Cards and expressions of sympathy may be sent to Linda Williams at 402 S. Fifth Street #105, Nevada, Iowa 50201.
