Violett Vivian Kinsey of the Mayflower Home, 616 Broad Street of Ginnell, Iowa, 50112, passed away on Monday, Dec. 1, 1980.
Violett Vivian Skortman, daughter of Axel and Eldora Cross Skortman, was born March 15, 1891, in Polk County, Iowa. She was graduated from Madrid High School in 1907 and later studied piano under Dr. Barlett, Des Moines School of Music and under Dr. Riferock, Drake University.
On September 28, 1910, she married Charles Elmer Kinsey, son of E. O. and Margaret Graves Kinsey. Charles was in the grocery business with his father and later operated his own store. Violett was a member of the First Christian Church in Madrid where she resided until moving to the Mayflower Home in Grinnell in 1964. She was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Grinnell. In February 1978 Violett fell on the ice and fractured a hip. Some months later she again fell and refractured it. Operations were successful and she reganed some mobility. However,being unable to care for herself she entered the Health Care Center at the Mayflower Home where she remained until her death.
Surviving is one son, Kermit Kenilworth Kinsey, 2801 N.E. 14th Street, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. 33304; a granddaughter, Mrs. Doris Hobson of Cedar Rapids; a grandson, Kenneth K. Kinsey of Iowa City; and five great grandchildren, Darla, Laura and Chet Hobson and Elizabeth and Kristofer Kinsey.
It was Violett's wish to dedicate her remains to the University of Iowa School of Anatomy for scientific purposes. A memorial service was held at the chapel in the Mayflower Home on Monday, Dec. 8, 1980, at 10:30 a.m.
