Mrs. Elizabeth Godfrey, whose death on last Thursday morning was chronicled in the preceding issue of the Regster-News, was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Lemmer, and was born in Aurelia, Ia., July 7, 1888. Her death at her home in Madrid on Dec. 13, 1917, came at the age of 29 years, 5 months, and 4 days.
Her early girlhood was passed near Hannon, Mo., where she completed the educational advantages provided by the country school, and later attended college two years in Moundville, Mo.
At the age of 15 she gave her life into God's keeping and united with the Baptist church in Hannon, Mo. She was an earnest Christian and in her last sickness said to those near her, "I am sure God knows what is best for me."
She was married at Atkinson, Nebr., to Chad Godfrey of Madrid on Sept. 25, 1911. Their little daughter, Marcella, was born Sept. 20, 1912. Besides this little daughter those who most deeply feel their great loss are: Her husband, Chad Godfrey; her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Lemmer; three brothers, Earl H. of Dixon, Mont.; Albert C. of Atkinson, Nebr.; three sisters, Mrs. Deloss Moulten, Minnie E. and Evangeline Lemmer, of Atkinson, Nebr. Besides these there are many other sorrowing relatives and a host of friends.
The funeral services were held from the Christian church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. R. E. Rockwell, the pastor. The pall bearers included three brothers and a brother-in-law of the bereaved husband. Servigna Godfrey of Madrid, John Godfrey of Granton, Ia., Albert Godfrey of Rembrandt, Iowa, Chas. Thrapp, Adolph Peterson and Frank Pies of Madrid. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Mt. Hope cemetery at the close of the service.
