Naomi Schroeder, age 90, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, died at the Home on Sunday, January 20, 2008. Funeral services are Thursday, January 24, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall with Rev. Lindsay Watkins officiating. Burial will be in the Boone Memorial Gardens.
Naomi was born in Linden, Iowa, on May 9, 1917, the daughter of Clifton and Cora (Moorehead) White. She graduated from high school in Linden. Naomi married Cleo Schroeder in Linden on June 23, 1939. In earlier years, she was a residential housekeeper. Then, she was employed by Spurgeon's Department Store in the fabric department as a sales associate. She gave classes in needlepoint. She was also a seamstress and switchboard operator at the Boone County Hospital. Naomi was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the local chapter of Questers. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, antiques, bird feeding and bird watching, and singing at the nursing home. In earlier years, she and Cleo wintered in McAllen, Texas.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2001, two brothers, Richard and Howard White, and a sister, Wanda. She is survived by a son, Steve Schroeder and wife, Pam of Boone; two daughters, Carole Dunlap and husband, Gerry of Bryan, Texas and Janet Vaudt and husband, Dick of Marshalltown; six grandchildren: Nicholas Schroeder and wife, Erica of Oskaloosa, Andrew Schroeder of Des Moines, Benjamin Schroeder of Boone, Laura Holderness and husband John of Glendora, California, Terry Dunlap of Boone, and Cindy Stone and husband, Allen of Bryan, Texas; four great-grandchildren: Bryce, Casey, and Tyler Stone, and Colton Schroeder. Naomi is also survived by a brother, Jerome White of Spokane, Washington and a sister, Pauline Sloan of Jefferson.
Friends may call Wednesday at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall from noon until 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Visitation continues Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
