Thomas D. Williams, 54, Knoxville, and formerly of Boone, died Oct. 23 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of a pulmonary embolism.
Funeral services were held Monday at Bybee & Davis-Mason Funeral Home in Knoxville. The body was cremated following the service and burial of the cremains will be held at Westlawn Cemetery in Lehigh at a later date.
He was born Dec. 30, 1948, in Lehigh, the son of Oscar and Dorothy (Barber) Williams. He was a graduate of Grand Community High School in Boxholm and entered the United States Army following graduation. He was a volunteer for Boone County Civil Defense and graduated from the Iowa Police Academy. He worked as a patrolman in Ogden and later as chief of police in Greene. He moved to Knoxville in 1981 and was employed at the Knxoville Veterans Administration Center until his death. He as a member of AA and taught classes for convicted offenders. His hobbies included golf and following the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Cubs. He also supported the Boone Little League program, serving as a coach for several years and most recently watching his grandchildren participate.
Survivors include his companion, Jolene Huss of Knoxville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Chris Williams and his friend, Deana Vinchattle of Boone, Cortney and Sara Williams of Boone and Shane and Dawn Porter of Iowa Falls; five sisters, Georgia Brown of Boone, CeCe Paris of Fraser, Gladys Williams of Fort Dodge, Donna Williams of Jefferson and Teri O'Brion of Milford; 10 grandchildren; and nieces, nephew and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
Bybee & Davis-Mason Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
