Virginia Houdek, 84, 509 Monona St., Boone, died Sunday at Boone County Hospital of congestive heart failure.

The body has been cremated.

Graveside services and burial of the cremains was held Wednesday at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone with the Rev. Jessica Johnston officiating.

She was born Oct. 24, 1918, in Adel, the daughter of Charles and Beulah (Burkett) Hay. She married Adolphe "Tony" Houdek Sept. 29, 1940, in Boone.

She was a 1936 graduate of Boone High School. After graduation, she worked as a telephone operator for four years prior to her marriage. She was a homemaker and was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was active in her church circle.

She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include one adopted son, Gary Kramer and his wife, Vicki, of Iowa Falls; two grandchildren, Bart Kramer of Iowa Falls and Beth Kramer Reding and her husband, Blake, of Des Moines; and one great-grandson, Charles Reding of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband in August of 2001.

Memorials may be given to the Boone County Hospital Foundation.

Stark-Welin Funeral Directors of Boone was in charge of arrangements.
