Cleo Schroeder, 83, of the Eastern Star Masonic Home and formerly of 1182 178th Place died Sunday at the Boone County Hospital due to a stroke. He was born Oct. 6, 1917, the son of Nicholas "John" and Augusta (Leininger) Schroeder. He graduated from Boone High School in 1935. He married Naomi White on June 23, 1939, in Linden.
He was employed with John Deere in Ankeny as a maintenance man for 31 years. He retired in 1977. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. His hobbies included hiking, golfing and horseshoe pitching. For many years, he and his wife wintered in Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters. He is survived by his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Pam Schroeder of Boone; two daughters, Jean Carlson of Boone, and Ruth Anderson of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Andrew and Benjamin Schroeder, Terry Dunlap, Cindy Stone, and Laura Hines; three great-grandchildren, Bryce, Casey and Tyler Stone.
Private graveside services will be held on Wednesday at the Boone Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Lindsay Watkins officiating. Burial followed the service. Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel today until 9 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 8 until 9 a.m.
Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran School
Schroeder Memorial Chapel, 6th and Marshall streets, was in charge of arrangements.
