Betty Lee Shearer 1929-2001

Betty Lee Shearer, 71, Williams, died Friday at Crestview Manor in Webster City. She was born Feb. 25, 1929, in Mason City, the daughter of Vere and Thelma (Edwards) McEntaffer. She married Edward S. Shearer, April 9, 1949, in Leavenworth, Kan.

She was a dance instructor in Boone and later in her home in Jewell for more than 25 years. She worked in the insurance division of Hamilton County Public Hospital and she and her husband were co-owners of the South Hamilton Record News in Jewell for many years. She also worked as a seamstress in Jewell for several years. She retired in 1996 and moved to Williams. She was a former member of Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, E. Stephen Shearer. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Richard Ely of Williams; three grandsons, Brian Kahl and his wife, Casey, of Story City, Randy Kahl of Webster City, and Tom Swenson of St. Louis, Mo.; one granddaughter, Shelly Swenson of Portsmouth, Va.; and one brother and sister-in-law, John and Vicki McEntaffer of Fort Myers, Fla.

Funeral services were held Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Williams with the Rev. Tom Hunt officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.

Foster Funeral Home of Webster City was in charge of arrangements.
