Wilma Carlson, 73, 703 W. Fourth St., Boone, died Wednesday at her home of cancer. She was born Dec. 7, 1927, in Anthon, the daughter of John and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Sargent) Smith. She married Robert Carlson April 22, 1946, in Troy, KN.
She worked at Bourn's in Ames and later owned and operated Carlson Upholstery in Boone. She lastly worked at 3M in Ames. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Boone and her hobbies included traveling, sewing, crafts, quilting and going to auctions.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, John "Jack" Smith; and one son-in-law, Willie Parkhurst. Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Terry Parkhurst of Boone, Linda and Steve Hoppe of Plymouth, MN, Karen Brezina and her companion, Doug Vrba, of Traer, and Tammy and Michael Wallace of Cedar Falls; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Donna Smith of Boone; one sister, Margaret Kardell of Boone; one sister-in-law, Janice Smith of Boone; seven grandchildren, Kaylynne Christenson, Kammie Friese, Shelly Biladeau, Robert Hoppe, Kristie Garin, Amy Wallace and Brian Wallace; and four great-granddaughters, Morgan Christenson, Skye Garin, Anna Christehson and Alexa Biladeau.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, Boone, with the Rev. Dr. Ron Franklin officiating. Burial will be in Bass Point Cemetery.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel Friday from noon to 6 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Visitation continues Saturday at the funeral chapel from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Memorials may be given to the Boone office of Hospice of Central Iowa.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
