Paul Lawrey, 81, 305 S. First St., Ogden, died Wednesday at Boone County Hospital of heart failure. He was born June 28, 1920, in Boone, the son of George and Margaret (Flaherty) Lowrey. He married Grace Linn June 5, 1946, in Boone.
He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Boone in 1937. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army, 38th Ordnance MM Co. He lived most of his life in the Pilot Mound and Ogden areas. From 1946 to 1948 he was a member of the Boone Fire Department and he farmed in Pilot Mound from 1958 to 1985, when he retired. He also served as the Veterans Affairs Officer for Boone County and was a member of American Legion Groom Kimsey Post No. 16 of Pilot Mound. His hobbies included traveling and attending reunions with Army buddies throughout the United States and Europe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and five sisters. Survivors include two brothers-in-law, Perry Elsberry and John Kenneth Walters, both of Boone; and several nieces and nephews.
The body has been cremated.
Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone with the Rev. Clem Currans officiating. Burial of the cremains with military honors by American Legion Groom Kimsey Post No. 16 of Pilot Mound will be in Pilot Mound Cemetery.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, Boone, Monday from noon to 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 to 10 a.m.
Memorials may be given to the Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund or the American Diabetes Association.
