DeWayne Pestotnik, 84, 134 W. Fifth St., Boone, died Monday at the Evangelical Free Church Home, Boone, of heart failure. He was born June 1, 1917, in Boone, the son of George and Goldie (Bowman) Pestotnik. He married Joselyn Bailey July 4, 1938, in Bethany, MO.
As a boy, he worked in the coal mines for his father. He then worked at the ordinance plant in Ankeny and for 30 years was employed at John Deere in Des Moines, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Boone and United Auto Workers Local No. 450. His hobbies included spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling, watching and reading about trains and car races.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter-in-law, Colleen Pestotnik. Survivors include his wife, a resident of the Evangelical Free Church Home; two sons and one daughter-in-law, George Pestotnik of Boone and David and Lynn Pestotnik of Boone; one daughter and son-in-law, Moreen (Betsy) and LeRoy (Butch) Behling of Boone; five grandchildren, Shirley Wirtz, Tim Pestotnik, Bill Behling, Tina DeVries and Brian Pestotnik; and eight great-grandchildren, Callie Wirtz, Steven Wirtz, Heather, Cory and Maggie Pestotnik, Kristen and Kayla Behling and Caleb DeVries.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Central Christian Church with the Rev. Dr. Ron Franklin and Brian Pestotnik officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, Boone, Wednesday from 2 to 9 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Visitation continues Thursday at the funeral chapel from 8 to 9 a.m. and at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements
