BARRETT, GEMMELL

Barret, Enos, farmer and stock-raiser; Sec. 1; P.O. Ogden; was born in New York, December 27, 1832, and lived there until twenty-five years of age; in 1859 he moved to Linn county, Iowa, remained there for four years, then went to Tama count, and after a residence there of about eight year came to this county in 1870, where he has since resided; he owns a farm of 268 acres under fence and mostly in cultivation; Mr. Barret helped to organize the township in 1871; was one of the first trustees there, holding that office for a number of years; was assessor in 1876, and at present is president of the township school board; he married, in 1867, Miss Lucy Gemmell, a native of Illinois; she was born in 1856; their family consists of two children: Charles R. (born February 11, 1873), and Grace (born July 7, 1869); he is a member of the I.O.O.F., Ogden Lodge No. 228, and is president of the Boone County Agricultural Fair at Ogden.
