George Held, butcher, Boonesboro, was born in Wurtemberg, Germany, July 3, 1840, and at the early age of thirteen years he left his parents to seek his fortune in America, he came to Pennsylvania and entered the employ of his uncle, who carried on an extensive meat market, he was engaged in working at this occuption at various places until 1859, when he opened a meat market in Chicago, running the same for six years, in 1865 he came to Boonesboro and engaged in the same business, which he has carried on quite extensively, in 1879 he established a market in that town in connection with which he is now engaged in shipping stock, August 15, 1869, he married Miss Elizabeth Jones, a native of Pennsylvania, she is of Welsh origin, their family consists of six children, Harry, Elmer, Alex, Elsie, Gertrude, and Fannie
