Quite serious accident occurred at Logan & Caufield’s coal bank yesterday at about one o’clock p.m. A large rock weighing all of 1,500 pounds was to have been moved, and it was so firmly imbedded that it was thought necessary to blast it, but just as the charge had been placed under it the mass gave way and struck a miner named John Denning in the small of his back, mashing him pretty badly. He was taken to his home in Boonsboro, where he lies in a precarious condition.
