Robert Adamson (1838-1931)

An early resident of Grant Township for about 35 years, Robert Adamson was born in Ireland in December of 1838. He was raised and educated in his native land and was there married about 1866 to Miss Ruth Etta Kerr (b. 1848). They immigrated to this country in 1868 staying briefly in New York. They came to Boone County, Iowa, about 1869 and to Grant Township in the spring of 1870.
Mr Adamson purchased 120 acres of raw prairie in Section 30 on Feb 18, 1870, for $400 and established his home place in the SW ¼ of the SW ¼ of that section. He subsequently purchased 80 adjacent acres, farming 200 acres all total.
To Mr and Mrs Adamson were born nine children, one in Ireland, one in New York, and the rest on their homestead in Grant Township, They were: Mrs Philip (Bessie) Ott (1867-1956), Robert (b. abt 1869), William H ( b.1873), Charles (b. abt 1874), James ( b. abt 1876), Ruth (b. abt 1878), Lewis A (b.1880), Clarence H (b. 1884), and Mary E (b. 1887).
Mr and Mrs Adamson retired form farming about 1905 and moved to Alabama. Mr Adamson died in Birmingham, Alabama at his youngest daughter’s home on Feb 24, 1931, aged 92 years. He is buried in Alabama. His home place in Grant Township was bought by Chris Shafer in 1911 and is today owned by Jack Smith, His other land is owned by Emma Smith.
Descendants still residing within Grant Township are one grandson, C Leon Ott, five great grandchildren, Leo Ott, Charles Ott, Mrs Dale (Lucille) Burman, Mrs Dean (Priscilla) Jordan, and LeRoy “Bud” Ott, and several great great grandchildren.
