John T Copeland, farmer, Sec 18, P O Pilot Mound, was born in Tennessee, December 27, 1837, in 1850 he moved to Washington county, Illinois, where he received his education, he commenced farming when sixteen years of age, and has followed said business up to the resent time, in the fall of 1866 he came to this county, was elected justice of the peace in October , 1878, and still holds that office, he has also been township trustee and road supervisor, he has a farm of 45 acres of well improved land, he was married in Illinois, August 12, 1866, to Mrs Nancy Moore, they have five children: Emma J (born October 1, 1867), Charles O (born March 5, 1869), Henry E (born February 25, 1871), Alfred F (born December 14, 1875), and Thomas L (born July 13, 1878), they have lost one: Carrie L (born April 9, 1873, died July 19, 1873)
