J R Butolph, farmer, Sec 32, P O Ogden, was born in Ohio, August 18, 1842, and when very young was taken by his parents to Indiana, where he spent his youth, there being educated in the fall of 1855 he moved to Linn county, this state, and was there engaged in farming, in 1861 he enlisted in the Second Iowa battery, and was in the service until 1865, participating in several hard fought battles, he was discharged at Davenport, Iowa and came to this county, where he still resides, has a finely improved farm of 135 acres under cultivation, in 1877 he was elected township assessor, and still holds that office, December 24, 1865, Miss Sarah A Myers became his wife, they have three children: Ada C (born April 16, 1866), Ida L (born July 13, 1869), and John J (born April 29, 1873)
