MRS. C. A. MARSH DIES AT RESULT OF STROKE JAN. 3
Mrs. Rebecca Eva Marsh, widow of Charles A. Marsh, who had been active in church and club work and a resident of Black Hawk and Buchanan Counties for 75 years, died at 4 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 1939 at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo of cerebral hemorrhage. She was 78 years old.
Mrs. Marsh was stricken Jan. 3 at the home of Mrs. Ray Brown, a daughter, in Waterloo, after closing her home there and packing preparatory to leaving to spend the remainder of the winter in Florida. She had distributed all of her house plants among friends in Jesup, which was her home for 21 years ago when the family moved to Waterloo.
Mrs. Marsh was apparently in perfect health up to the time she was stricken.
The late C. A. Marsh, who died May 17, 1930, had been vice president of Iowa Dairy Separator Co., later known as Associated Manufacturers, and was president of First National Bank of Waterloo at the time of his death. His principal interest during most of his life had been farming and stock raising.
Mrs. Marsh for many years had been a member of Macedonia class in Westminster Sunday school and served as teacher at times. She was a member of Chapter FE, P. E. O. sisterhood and a member of the fine arts, bible and garden departments of Waterloo Woman's club. She was a charter member of the Even Dozen Study Club of Jesup.
Mrs. Marsh was an ardent flower lover and her garden at her Jesup home was a beauty spot.
Rebecca Eva Bailey, daughter of John and Sidney O. (Thompson) Bailey, was born July 21, 1860 in Macomb, IL. In 1863, her parents moved to a farm near Shady Grove, Buchanan County. On Sept. 4, 1878, she was married to Mr. Marsh at Jesup.
Mrs. Marsh was the last surviving member of her family.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Brown, 1015 Baltimore Street, Waterloo, and Mrs. L. S. Hovey, Jesup; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A daughter, Mrs. H. A. Maine, died Oct. 1, 1932.
Many friends attended funeral services Monday afternoon in Westminster Presbyterian church, Waterloo.
