OLDEST RESIDENT AT GILBERTVILLE, MRS GALES DIES
Gilbertville-- Solemn High Requiem mass will be said Wednesday, at 9:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Gilbertville, IA for Mrs. Susan Gales, 97, Gilbertville's oldest resident, who died at 2:30 p.m. Friday in her home of complications incident to advanced age.
Father W. J. Cremer will say the mass, and burial will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
She was born January 23, 1850, in Luxemburg, Germany, the daughter of Joseph and Susan Heymes, and came to the United States when she was 18 years old.
On May 23, 1868, she was married to Nicholas Gales in Pt. Washington, Wis., and they moved to Gilbertville in 1869 where she had lived ever since.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Gilbertville.
Surviving are four daughters: Mrs. Mary Shirley; Mrs. Susan Bender; Mrs. R. H. Lendy, St. Paul, Minnesota; Miss Rosa Gales, at home; five sons: John; Chris, Irvington, IA; Jack, La Porte City, IA; Matt, Loretta, Minn; and Peter, Souix City, IA. Thirty-two grandchildren and sixty-eight great grandchildren also survive.
Her husband, three daughters, one son, four brothers, and four sisters preceded her in death.
The body will be taken to the family residence in Gilbertville Monday afternoon from Ray Hurley Funeral Home.
