Jesup--Jesup relatives and friends of John L. Schares were grieved to learn that he had taken his own life in a state of despondency.
His body was found about 6 p.m. Tuesday in his room at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Orville Frost at Gilbertville, where he had resided the past year.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Apr. 3, 1938 and his son, Eugene, who drowned July 3, 1949.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Gibbons, Evansdale; Mrs. Cletus Frost and Mrs. Orville Frost, of Gilbertville, and Sister Francis Clare, St. Paul, Minn.; four sons, Ray of Jesup; Leo and Vincent of Gilbertville; and Alvin, of La Porte City; five sisters, Mrs. Ann Mulvehill, Mrs. Philip Fridel, Mrs. Pete Winninger, all of Waterloo, Mrs. John Nemmer, Grand Rapids, Mich., and a sister, Sister Mary Camilla, Cotton, Washington, and two brothers, William of Waterloo, and Herbert A. of Jesup.
Solemn High Mass funeral was conducted at 9:30 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville where Mr. Schares was a lifelong member.
