John Reuter, 71, 1810 Mulberry St., died of leukemia Monday at 11 a.m. at Allen Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
A resident of this community most of his life, Mr. Reuter was born Apr. 3, 1883 at Joliet, IL, a son of Christian and Julia Randolph Reuter. He moved with his family to a farm near Raymond when a boy.
He was married at Gilbertville to Catherine Welden on Oct. 17, 1906 and farmed between Jesup and Gilbertville until retiring a year ago. He has since lived here and was a member of St. John's Church.
Survivors, besides his widow, are six sons: Edward of 114 Clay St.; Leo of 404 Indians St.; Richard of 815 Hannah Blvd; Floyd of 1645 Lafayette St.; and Francis and Harold of Jesup. There are also four daughters: Mrs. Anna Brown of 1633 Lafayette St.; Mrs. Margaret Baughman, of 2719 Lafayette St.; Mrs. Agnes Waerenborg of 2120 Mulberry St.; and Mrs. Rose Marie Johnson of 1712 Lafayette St.
Additional survivors are four brothers: Robert and William Randolph of this city; Albert of Jesup; and Lewis of LeRoy, Minn., as well as three sisters: Mrs. Alvina Pint, of Independence; Mrs. Emma Welter of Lamont, and Mrs. Katherine Schuler of Hazelton, and a half sister, Mrs. Lena Pint, of Independence and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one daughter, and two brothers.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Leo Jaeger, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Raymond. A Rosary service will be Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the O'Keefe and Towne Funeral Home.
The body will be taken from the funeral home to the family residence Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. and a rosary service is planned there Wednesday at 8:15 p.m.
