Martin Nie died at his home in Gilbertville Friday, June 7, at 9:30 a.m., of Asthma and complications.
He was born in Fox Twp., Black Hawk Co. on Feb. 18, 1873, the son of John and Margaret Nie. On April 26, 1899, he was united in marriage with Barbara Stubenrauch at Gilbertville.
Surviving are his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Tony Schares, La Porte, and Margaret, at home, 9 grandchildren, two brothers, John, of Jesup, and Theodore, La Porte City, four sisters, Mrs. Lena Schmitz, LA, Mrs. Nick Bloes, Sheldon, IA, and Mrs. Frank Franta and Mrs. J. P. Federspiel, Gilbertville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers. Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 10, at 9:30 a.m. in the Catholic Church at Gilbertville.
