Jesup-Matilda M. Schares, 95, of Jesup, died Sunday, Sept. 5, at Ravenwood Health Care Center, Waterloo, after a lengthy illness.
She was born July 5, 1898, in Gilbertville, the daughter of Nick and Anna Schiltz Kremer. She married Herbert Anthony Schares Sept. 8, 1920, in Gilbertville. He died Feb. 4, 1965.
Survivors include four sons, Roger W. of New Hampton, Herbert J. and Donald J. of Jesup, and Dr. Justin M. of Oglesby, IL; a daughter, Rosemary E. Sewick of Aurora, Colo.; 38 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren; preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Mary O'Brien; a son, Gerald N.; five grandsons; one great grandson; four brothers, Matt, Nick, John, and Jake Kremer; and four sisters, Margaret Bullerdick, Isadora Mastellar, Anna O'Connell and Mary Schmidt.
Services Will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with burial in the church cemetery; friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday at White Funeral Home in Jesup, where there will be a 3 p.m. Catholic Daughters of America Rosary, a 7 p.m. parish rosary and an 8 p.m. vigil service.
