Mrs. Mathias Schmitz, 73, resident of this vicinity for a number of years, died at the home of her son, Frank Schmitz, near here on December 16. She became ill last Saturday.

She was born in Oberweiss, Germany, May 13, 1863. Before her marriage to Mr. Schmitz Nov. 25, 1885, was Miss Mary Ehr. They lived at Raymond until a short time ago when they went to Andrew to make their home with their son.

Surviving besides the husband are five sons and four daughters: Mrs. Nick Schmitz, Riverside, Cal; Mathias Schmitz, Jr., Elk Point, South Dakota; J. C. Schmitz, Waterloo, Rt. 1; Sister Mary Humbert (Ann), St. Agatha, Ont., Canada; Rev. George Schmitz, Andrew; Frank Schmitz, Raymond; Miss Margaret Schmitz, Andrew; Valentine Schmitz, Raymond; Mrs. Theodore Becker, Waterloo, Rt. 5.
Also surviving are 21 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Weber, Waterloo; and Mrs. Charles Wingert, Raymond; four brothers, Nick Ehr, of Jesup; John, Peter, and Simon Ehr, all of Minot, North Dakota.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Raymond of which Mrs. Schmitz was a member. Ten priests assisted with services. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
