Gilbertville--Services for Mrs. Barbara B. Fischels, 95, of 1621 Sixth St. will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
She died Saturday night (Aug. 30) at Covenant Medical Center-St. Francis, Waterloo.
She was born Dec. 6, 1890, near Eagle Center, daughter of Peter and Catherine Schares Bovy. She married Nicholas Fischels on April 6, 1910, in Gilbertville. He died May 6, 1967.
She and her husband farmed near Gilbertville until 1952 when they moved to Gilbertville. She was the oldest living resident of Gilbertville.
Survivors include five sons: William, Ray, Roman, and Nick, Jr, all of Gilbertville, and Kenny of Jesup; a daughter, Mrs. John Schmit, of Gilbertville, and 37 grandchildren; 102 great grandchildren; and 35 great great grandchildren; she was preceded in death by two sons, Joe and Leo.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, all day Tuesday and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Oppold Funeral Home, Waterloo, where rosaries will be at 7 and 8 p.m. today, 3 p.m. Tuesday by the Rosary Society, and 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorial may be made to the church of Don Bosco High School.
