SOUTHARD, TALMAGE W. , 87, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at Windsor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Cedar Falls. He was born October 8, 1917 near Yadkinville, North Carolina, the son of Luther W. and Dora (Hodge) Southard. Talmage was six months old when the family moved to Iowa, and he attended schools in Grundy County. He served more than four years in the US Army, most of that time in the coast artillery. Talmage married Doris Kramer on May 19, 1941 at Waterloo, Iowa. They lived on a farm near New Hartford, Iowa for thirty-eight years. After farming a number of years, he started a car repair business on the farm, and continued to work there after moving to Cedar Falls in 1984.

Talmage came to know the Lord as his personal Savior during a series of Gospel meetings at Stout held by Oliver Smith and Paul Elliott, in the spring of 1950. He thoroughly enjoyed his salvation and sought to gain a wider knowledge and understanding of the scriptures, often sharing gleanings from the word with the local assembly of which he was a part. Talmage occasionally took part in series of meetings, both Gospel and ministry, in assemblies in other parts of Iowa and other states and in Newfoundland.

Survivors include his wife, Doris, of Cedar Falls; one son, Ron (Carole) Southard of Buena Vista, Colorado; four grandchildren, Bridgett (Clyde) Johnson of West Bend, Iowa, Kim (John) Koch of Aplington, Iowa, Mitch Southard of Charlotte, North Carolina and Heather (Chad) Pruisner of Parkersburg, Iowa; six great-grandchildren, Trent, Aaron, and Dustin Johnson, and Alyson, Kellan and Lyndan Koch; a daughter-in-law, Lynda Southard of Aplington, Iowa; and a sister, Hazel (Don) Swanson of Cedar Falls.

Talmage was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Nellie Gram and Edith Drenner; and a brother, Delmer Southard.

Funeral services were 10:00 am Saturday, August 6, at the Stout Gospel Hall in Stout, Iowa, with interment at Butler Center Cemetery near Allison, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.
