Obituary, March 24, 1906 - The Waterloo Daily Courier, Waterloo Iowa
Mrs. Julia Bahl, for the past thirty-one years a resident of Black Hawk county, making her home in Washburn, died at her home last evening at 6:15. The cause of her death was dropsy, she having been a sufferer from this disease for some years. Mrs. Bahl was a native of the State of Missouri, having been born there on the fourth day of February 1834. In 1853 she was married to Bennett Bahl of Dubuque county and 22 years later, in 1875, they removed to Blackhawk county, where they have resided ever since. Mrs. Bahl is survived by her husband and nine children, Mrs. F. Andre, Mrs. John Felton, and Mrs. Frank Hemmer, of this city; Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson of Clearwater, Neb.; Peter Bahl of Washburn; Mrs. Joseph Sheets of Elgin, Neb.; Mrs. Joseph Brustkern of Emerson, Neb.; Bennett Bahl Jr. of Washburn, and Mrs. Edward Rutter of Dewar. Mrs. Bahl was one of the oldest and best known ladies in Blackhawk county. Her death will be deepy regretted by all who claimed her as their friend. Mrs. Bahl was a faithful member of the Catholic Church. The funeral will be held probably Monday morning from the church at Gilbertville, Father Nemmers officiating. Interment will be at Gilbertville.

March 26 - Mrs. Julia Bahl resident of Blackhawk county for 41 years, died at Washburn Friday evening at 6:00 o'clock from an illness of dropsy. She was a native of Missouri and was born February 4, 1834. She was married to Bennett Bahl in Dubuque county in 1853. Mr. and Mrs. Bahl came to Blackhawk county 41 years ago and settled on a farm somewhere near Gilbertville. A large family survives, her husband and eleven chidren. Mrs. Bahl was a member of the Catholic Church of this place and funeral services were held on Monday morning at 10:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Nemmers.
