Blackhawk County's Oldest Woman Is Dead

Waterloo, Ia. June 1--INS--Mrs. Honor Allen, believed to have been the oldest woman in Black Hawk county, died today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. I. L. Whitney, in Waterloo, from infirmities of old age.

Mrs. Allen would have been 102 years old tomorrow.

She came to the United States with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Treloan [should be Tregloan], from Cornwall, England, in 1844 on a clipper ship which took seven weeks to cross the Atlantic ocean.

The family settled at Galena, Ill., where she married Thomas Allen, later moving to a farm near Hazel Green, Wis. Allen was killed in cyclone in 1877. The widow, with her daughter and son J. T. Allen, moved to a farm in Black Hawk county, and came to Waterloo in 1882.
