Hazel W, Jorgensen, 79, of the Cedar Falls Health Care Center, and formerly of Hudson, Iowa, died of natural causes Thursday, October 27, 1994 at the care center.
Hazel was born on October 11, 1915, in Butler County, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Birdie Bettinger Whitney. She attended school in New Hartford, and graduated from New Hartford High School.
She then moved to Waterloo, where she worked for a short time. On July 9, 1935, Hazel was united in marriage to Wendell Jorgensen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Hudson, Iowa, where Wendell worked for the Hudson Creamery, and Hazel worked at home.
In 1947, the couple moved to a farm northwest of Cedar Falls, which they farmed for many years. In 1961, they moved back to Hudson and Wendell worked for Universal Hoist Co. Hazel worked for Loonan Cafe and also Towsley Grocery, both in Hudson. She then began work for The University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, where she worked for many years until her retirement in 1980.
Wendell died on August 20, 1978, and Hazel continued living in Hudson. She later became a resident of Cedar Falls Health Care Center, where she had lived ever since.
She is survived by two sons, Gary Jorgensen Hudson; Jim Jorgensen of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Janet Houser of Des Moines; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, one brother, Glenn Whitney of Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, Gertrude Parks, and one brother, Harry Whitney.
Following the graveside service, relatives and friends are invited to Gary Jorgensenís residence at 464 3rd St. in Hudson for refreshments with the family.
